The final touches on the metamorphosis of the Monarch Casino Black Hawk into the Monarch Casino Resort Spa Black Hawk are scheduled to be completed this spring. The property awaits just a 45-minute drive from downtown Denver, in the historic gold-mining hamlet of Black Hawk, Colorado, which is now home to more than a dozen casinos.
Monarch Casino & Resort — the owner of Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada — bought the former Riviera Black Hawk Casino for $76 million in 2012. Since then, the casino’s transformation has resulted in about 32,000 square feet of first-class gaming space, 750 slot and video-gaming machines, and 14 table games, along with a Las Vegas-style buffet restaurant and Chicago Dogs! Eatery.
Once finished, the $400 million expansion will add a new 23-story hotel tower with 516 deluxe accommodations, an upscale spa, a rooftop pool, four new restaurants, and almost 5,000 square feet of meeting space. It will also nearly double the gaming space, creating a casino with 1,200 slot machines, 40 table games, a high-stakes area, and a live poker room.
The expansive property is now packed with incentives for groups. When not convening in the Crystal Boardroom or Crystal Retreat, attendees can meet in the Crystal Ballroom, which has nearly 4,000 square feet of highly flexible function space and a capacity of up to 398 in its largest configuration.
